Fire Weather Index
Fire Weather Index Analysis from EFFIS using ERA-5 Land
Year 2022 Averaged
MFS - Mitiga Fire System
Developed back in 1976, the Fire Weather Index (FWI) represents the risk of a particular region to be subject to wildfires. This metric is expressed as a unitless index, being a combination of several environmental and physical variables such as relative humidity of the air, the precipitation, surface temperature and wind speed. In this map the global FWI dataproduct from the ECMWF reanalysis ERA-5 averaged for the year 2020 is shown. The map has been created using Python for the postprocessing and averaging of the data and the Python library Folium to render the map on CartoDB / OpenStreetMap cartography.
